The T-Mobile Nokia E73 Mode Starter Guide
Welcome to the T-Mobile Nokia E73 Mode Starter Guide. I have always been a fan of the Eseries devices thanks in large part to their outstanding build quality, inexpensive pricing, functional QWERTY keyboards, and focus on getting things done. I was caught off guard and completely surprised when T-Mobile USA announced their new Nokia E73 Mode and made the immediate decision to buy one for myself. At only $69.99 $49.99 with contract, I see this purchase as a no brainer. The E73 Mode is a variant of the Nokia E72, which is a successor to the Nokia E71/E71x devices.
There are just a couple of differences between the E72 and E73 Mode, primarily in the radios used by T-Mobile USA. The E73 Mode supports T-Mobile’s unique 3G data network frequency, 1700 MHz, as well as the 900 and 2100 MHz bands so it will work with 3G in countries outside the US as well. It will not work with 3G on AT&T even if it is unlocked. In addition, the E73 Mode supports calls via UMA over WiFi so if you are in an area with a weak T-Mobile signal and have WiFi available you can make calls through T-Mobile over the WiFi network. See my detailed article below that further explains this rather unique connection method.

Calls over WiFi? What is this UMA stuff all about and is it the same as VoIP?
The E73 Mode stands out from the Nokia E72 for a couple of reasons and one is the support for T-Mobile USA’s unique UMA service where you can place calls over the T-Mobile network via a WiFi connection.
