Tips & tricks: Shortcuts for your E71x QWERTY keyboard

I am a big fan of the customizable shortcut options on my T-Mobile G1 Android device and have only seen this on the Blackjack II in the past. I read about an unsigned Symbian application for the E71, but getting it signed was too much of a pain and never gave more thought to such an application. I read about an unsigned Symbian application for the E71, but getting it signed was too much of a pain and never gave more thought to such an application. I just read a short review of Cute Keys on the E71 Fanatics site and plan to go download and install it right away on my Nokia E71x.

Cute Keys is a $9.99 application that lets you create virtually unlimited keyboard shortcuts that let you perform the following:

  • Open chosen application installed on the mobile
  • Open selected file or document
  • Call a certain recipient
  • Open selected contact from your contact book
  • Change Bluetooth status
  • Send SMS/MMS/eMail to selected recipient
  • Browse selected website

You setup shortcuts with two, three or four buttons (try that with regularity) on the QWERTY keyboard. The Nokia E71x is specifically listed in the compatibility list, which is a bit rare since the E71x seems to have some limits thanks to AT&T.

Have any readers tried this out on their E71 or E71x and if so, is it worth the $10?

Get any Symbian application signed in about 90 seconds https://www.symbiansigned.com/app/page/public/openSignedOnline.do

I use it on my E71 and it’s working great. It’s worth the money.

Now if it could re-enable the Ctrl+C/Ctrl+V copy/paste shortcuts from the E71 that are disabled on the E71x, they’d really have something! I’d drop $10 in a heartbeat to get that working, so frustrating.

I have to agree with Travis. If they make ctrl/c, ctrl/v available with this, I would grab it in a heartbeat. Or any other app that provides this capability for the E71x for that matter.

I would NOT have purchased the Nokia e71X if I’d known that copying and pasting weren’t possible–I actively blog & comment on others’ blogs, and the inability to copy from point A to paste in point B means that I will waste hours a week retyping. The browser does allow copying text & pasting in a note/document, but that’s not good enough. Any ideas?
