Sync your Google Calendar and Contacts via Mail For Exchange

There has been a Google Sync client for S60 devices, but in the past it only synced up your Contacts. As posted on the Google Mobile blog there is a new Google Sync for Nokia S60 client that syncs your Google Calendar and Contacts to your device.

Sync your Google Calendar and Contacts via Mail For Exchange

The interesting thing about this product is that is uses Mail For Exchange on your S60 device (this is a free download) and supports push technology so your info is constantly updated. You cannot sync or view multiple Google Calendars, which is something I would like since my daughters have their calendars setup on Google for me to check.

I personally use an Exchange server to keep my PIM data in sync so won’t be using this product myself, but it is nice to see the continued development of the product.

Thanks to PhoneScoop for the heads-up on the news.

I selected the E71 version, since the E71x was not listed, and I could not get it to install.

Unfortunatly the google.ca site does not have the sync app. And I tried using google.com and it would not let me download.

I got ver. 2.09 to install, but I get completely different options than seen above. Also, when following the instructions on m.google.com/sync, the version for the E71 doesn’t work. The only way I could install was via the E71x mail setup wizzard. That’s where I got ver 2.09

I tried to sync contacts and calendar but both was not very successful. My contacts were all deleted on my phone (ok initial sync) but after this I am only getting a server error or it deletes all contacts on the server as well. Calendar works after I cleaned all double and shifted entries manually. So for now not very pretty. (Latest MfE for E61i) Hope this improves soon.

Perhaps E71x owners should try the version for the E75 rather than the E71 since both the E71x and E75 use Feature Pack 2 whereas the E71 uses Feature Pack 1?

I may end up using this down the road, but I’m really enjoying Nokia’s Ovi Sync option. My primary use is for backup since I only use my gmail for pop3 access. For heavy gmail users, this is great!

One thing I recommend to Google Calendar users is to import a Holiday calendar. For some reason, the holiday entries won’t sync, but you can go one by one and open each holiday entry manually and select ‘Copy’. This way you can have national and religious holidays appear on your phone. Just make sure you only select ‘repeat’ for holidays that repeat on numbered days (e.g. Armed Forces Day) and not ones like Easter which vary from year to year.

@Brad How does the contact sync work for you with? I tried this once I almost all contacts lost their information only number and some email addresses were left. At least with Ovi the calendar sync worked. Pretty disappointing this whole sync business.

@Brad, I will try that. For the future, I guess if the E71x is not listed, choose the E75?

HI Matt.. I’m new here but for your problem on syncing multiple calendar, I found a good free method to do that and it works like a charm. Try http://www.nuevasync.com/ and you’ll be delighted.

I just switched from a Treo 680, and am ready to pull my hair out! I can sync my calendar with nuevasync but can’t do contacts. All I want to sync my oracle work cal, my personal cal, and import palm contacts. Am I delusional?

Hey Brownstocking,

If you just want to sync contacts, you can just use the syncML settings. I use that with my E71x and it works like a champ. The settings are here:

Only thing is that there’s no autosync so you have to manually sync your contacts but that’s no biggy for me.

Brian,

NuevaSync requires Mail for Exchange application. Where did you download that from? Apparently from users on this forum, the MFE app for the E71 doesn’t work on the E71x.

Brian, I’d love to hear, button press by button press, how you got this working on your e71x. The built-in M4E app doesn’t seem to have the options mentioned for the nuevasync config, and Nokia doesn’t offer a version that installs on the E71x from their site.

Tamale, You can find MfE for E71x at http://tamale.pwnij.com/e71x/MailforExchangeE71xPR1.sisx I downloaded through my PC and after weeks of frustration I synced through nuevasync.com

@Brian: Does NeuvaSync.com also works with nokia E51.

I´m currently running MfE for contacts and calendar. Its running fine so far. But it is a pity that only one calendar is supported. I have three calendars (me, my wife and business)

You need to only allow it to sync calendar and contacts, not taks and it will work

Issues with MfE 3.0 sync with nokia E71

Device: E71 Carrier: Airtel Country / Language: India/ English OS / Browser / build number (if applicable): Symbian s60

I am trying to set up Google Sync using MfE 3.00(50) on my Nokia E71 After the sync of contacts I have observed following issues: 1. Fields with same name do not get copied to server: eg. If I have 2 fields with name “Mobile” in a contact on my phone, only the first number gets synced to server and the second one does not 2. Fields with custom labels in a contact do not get synced to the server: If I have saved 2 telephone numbers as have given them custom labels as say “Home1″ and “Home 2″, they won;t get copied to the server. 3. Information of groups not transfered: If I have created groups in my contacts then they do not get transferred to the server.

Does anybody know solution/workaround for these issues?
