Symbian^3 screenshots mix 5th Edition & Maemo with a Google Android look

2010 is shaping up to be quite a year for Nokia and Symbian and I am excited about what we may see. There has been lots of talk about Symbian and Maemo and what OS will be appearing on what type of devices. There has also been talk that S60 is on the way out, but I think people need to keep in mind that this UI on top of Symbian is being rebranded as the Symbian Foundation interfaces known as Symbian^1, Symbian^2, Symbian^3, and Symbian^4. As you can see the Symbian 9.4 OS and S60 5th Edition form the base for Symbian^1 so it is possible you could see some of the same form of devices like we have like the N97 mini with a Symbian^1 label.

Symbian^3

Rafe posted some screenshots of Symbian^3 and as you can see it takes what we see with S60 5th Edition (widgets on the standby screen) and adds some of what we see with Maemo 5 on the N900 (multiple desktop). As a person who has used many different types of mobile phones, it looks much like the Google Android OS to me. However, Android seems to bog down and be a bit unstable even on devices like the Motorola Droid so if Nokia and the Symbian Foundation can bring us this type of user interface with the media support, stability, and overall high quality expected from Nokia then we may have some awesome devices to use even with Symbian^3. Don’t forget Symbian^4 follows that too.
