Skyfire 1.0 browser released, works well on the AT&T Nokia E71x!

Nokia E71x: Another success, previous Skyfire client runs just fineSkyfire just released version 1.0 of their software today (see the PDF press release) and in talking with them yesterday I was told the AT&T Nokia E71x fix was not yet implemented. I then read in the comments of one of my earlier posts discussing Skyfire (thanks ScooterG!) that it was indeed running just fine on the E71x so I immediately went to m.skyfire.com from withing my browser and found the E71x was specifically identified. I downloaded Skyfire 1.0 on the E71x and received an unable to install error as I tried to upgrade from version 0.85. I then uninstalled the older version of Skyfire (DO THIS FIRST) and the 1.0 version installed just fine and I am happy to confirm that it indeed works like a champ with the soft key placements correct and everything. Bring on Hulu baby!

It is a large 1.2MB file, but I installed it to main memory to get optimal performance. I did have to play around a bit to get the right connection by switching between Operator (Proxyless) and Internet (MEdiaNet), but the Proxyless one eventually worked just fine.

There are some cool new features such as double press on the center action button of the navigational pad to toggle zoom levels. Hulu played well in an almost full screen window.

This is great! Habe installed it tosin E90 and N95 8 GB already. It supports many streams, even areena.yle.fi, which only N810 has taggled in my arsenal. The only problem is that I can’t hear anything from the streams when using Bluetooth headset (BH
503, 601 and 640 all the same) though I am using 3G god the Internet connection (WLAN conflicts with Bluetooth). Help, anyone?

Hello Mathew Miller,

First off thank you for your very helpful and informative posts concerning the E71x, I recently just got mine and love it. (I now have skyfire running beautifully on it) I do have one question though and not sure exactly where to put it so here it goes:

I’ve noticed complaints about the E71 unlocked saying that dust sometimes gets underneath the screen, and I was wondering if you have had heard or seen any reports with the E71x. (Maybe nokia fixed the problem for the E71x.. I don’t know)

I know it seems like a petty concern but I had this issue with my last smartphone and you’d be surprised how quickly and annoying it can become,

Thanks again for your efforts with the E71x I look forward to hearing more,
-ike

Skyfire 1.0 works fine on my Nokia E71x, but I can’t get any of the Hulu streams to load. Anyone else having trouble? I’ve tried using both 3G and my home wifi.

Hi, I just installed skyfire but when I tried watching videos on you tube or hulu, there seems to be a video delay. the audio is fine but the video mostly freezes up. Is this normal? I have my connections on proxyless.

Ok now video streams are loading, which is nice. Newbie, I do have that problem occasionally where the video will get behind the audio. My connection is proxyless also. Not sure if it’s normal.

@jbviau

yeah, and it’s annoying. I like the fact that I can view a whole website, as if I’m on my pc. But hardly can watch videos because it just freezes up. Are others having the same problem? I’m quite surprised that others seem to be happy with skyfire. Can someone help me please? should I reinstall it?

Suzanne, do you have access to a home WIFI network?

I have a data-plan with AT&T, but only for the first month because they make you, once the month is up I’ll be using my home WIFI to access all web etc.

Skyfire looks neat, but you failed to mention the catch; their privacy policy indicates they collect and maintain a database of your information, including but not limited to the web pages you browse.

Any free browsers for the E71x that don’t have that caveat?

I installed Skyfire 1.0 on y Nokia E71X but having problems getting it to work. When I’m not at home and use the media net, it tells me that he network is unabailable. When I’m home using the WI-FI, it detects it but still does not connect. I even went into my router settings, manually set the isp though my phone and router, opened 443 udp and tcp, did all the steps needed to do it that way, but still nothing. Am I missing something? I’m reading post with people that has success with the E71X. I don’t understand why mine isn’t working. I’m able to get on using the default browser it came with thoght media net and my WI-FI at home.

Loaded a stargate sg-1 video, was kind of hard to see, had hard time zooming, then couldn’t hear anything.
