Review: MyPhone 2.1 turns your Nokia 5800 XM into an iPhone clone
My Nokia 5800 is a video playing machine and I am really having a great time with the device running Gravity and Nokia Podcasting. I just spent the last several days playing with the newest MyPhone version 2.10 software that gives you an iPhone look and feel to your S60 device. The Flash-based UI is very snappy and quite functional and is fun to use on the device. It is priced at $14.99 and in my opinion it is worth the price.
After you launch the MyPhone software you are presented with the familiar iPhone lock screen where you have to slide your finger from left to right to unlock it. You then see the 3×5 grid of applications and on the first 3 screens these are all established by default. You can rearrange them by tapping holding and then moving them. On the fourth screen you will find a page that you can customize with apps or hyperlinks for the browser. One slightly disappointing limitation is that you cannot change any of the icons for the shortcuts you setup.
It is also takes a bit of work on your part to customize the icons for applications and you actually have to read the user guide to figure it out. It is only a few steps and after you do it once or twice is not that bad. However, it is not self-explanatory so read the guide.
The MMMOOO developer also added in some custom apps to the MyPhone software, including a Sketchpad, Auto-lock, RSS reader, and Weather utility. Some of these are for the 5th Edition (5800) devices only so check their site before you buy. There is a trial version you can test out too so give that a whirl.
I wish I could have the application setup to stay running more than it does since pressing the center button on my 5800 kicks me out of the app and takes me back to the standard 5800 home screen.
For those S60 fans, it is a cool application to show off and lets you pretend you have an iPhone without all the limitations found on that device.
