Olive Tree Bible Software adds new Symbian developer

Olive Tree BibleReaderI just read some good news over on the Olive Tree Bible Software blog that should make S60 Bible readers very happy. They added a new developer to their team to focus on the Symbian platform. I use both Olive Tree Bible Reader and the S60 Bible on my devices, but the Olive Tree product doesn’t work yet on the Nokia 5800 XM device. It sounds like support for this device, and my upcoming Nokia N97, will be the first priority for this new developer.

Welcome to the team Keith! I look forward to future Symbian products and support.

Matthew, are you a Christian blogger?

I too use Olive Tree – I’m glad they have the new S60 developer onboard. Having a graphic in place would be great, instead of the S60 default, too. On all phones I’ve ever used, the icon graphic never shows.

Matt, I asked you this in email but this would be a great chance to ask you publicly: if you had to choose one S60 bible reader, which would it be especially if cost wasn’t a factor?

It’s heartening to see religious users of the S60 community who don’t fear mentioning it.. The Symbian-Guru and dotsix too. I belonged to an otherwise great Linux community where I felt welcomed and respected until it was ‘discovered’ that I was religious. After that, I was just ‘tolerated’. I always found that somewhat common in ‘techy’ circles.

Brad, I can tell you it is probably because of the stereotype of religious conservatives not being well versed in the ways of tech. Fortunately, you have those like Obama, who are Christian, and also familiar with tech. Hopefully they overshadow the stereotype creators of old.

I myself am atheist, however, it is good to see things like this on S60 :)

Julien, Have you downloaded a Bible database as well? You need both the S60 Bible program, and a Bible datafile (KJV, ASV, or whatever).

Download the Bible datafile and save it in a directory e:/Bible on your phone. You can get Bibles from http://palmbibleplus.sourceforge.net/bibles.htm

Restart S60 then select – Options-Bibles-Update Bible List.

Cheers.

HELP!!! Hi guys, I’ve downloaded and been using the S60 Bible software on my N97, but I’m not entierly happy with the program. I’m missing the search function. The search always comes up blank on the S60 Bible software. Why is it so difficult to find a good fully functional program for my N97?

@Julien and Hemmy, For your S60 bible, you have to update first the bibles. Look in the menu option and choose bible then select “update bibles”. After that you can just touch your phone screen (if not, you have to go again to bible option and choose “select bible”). I hope it helps.

I just got my N8 and wrote the people at Olive tree about having a Bible reader for the N8 and they wrote back that there are no plans to work on one…Yes I know there is a new V60 5 but it won’t work on my N8.. My thinking is that some developers are looking past the N8 and have already started working in the new OS the NOkia is going to use … I am afaid to say that we who bought the N8 are going to be out of luck when it comes to have all the appicaltion we want on our phone … It is too bad really …like the phone beside that … OH well

Thanks Paul Chapman! I’ve been struggling to get a free bible working on my S60 Nokia E65. The Olive tree advice doesn’t say to restart. Also the path of e:/Bible worked, whereas c:/data/Bible didn’t.

All in all, thanks to Paul.
