Will Nokia and Verizon look to rule the US 4G LTE market in 2010?
Rene posted on a story about Verizon asking former customers if they would have stayed for the iPhone and then was kind enough to point me to another Verizon story related to Nokia. It seems that Verizon may have deep hard feelings against the Apple and iPhone exclusivity deal and appears to be making a deal with Nokia to create a 4G LTE (long term evolution) touchscreen device for the US market.
As we all know, Nokia doesn’t have the best working relationships with US carriers. Then again, the only carrier that has released their smartphone devices over the last couple of years has been AT&T so this partnership may be an even better way for Verizon to strike at AT&T.
We also know that Nokia makes some of the greatest handsets in the world and they have the capability to come out with a device that could generate the kind of excitement seen in the iPhone. With a partner such as Verizon, with the largest network in the US, Nokia could finally start to become a major name in the smartphone market here. And as Dieter pointed out the Ovi Store looks to be more functional than the Apple App Store.
