UPDATE 4: Nokia USA store color pre-orders available and gray now shipping

Does anyone else think the Nokia USA store is clueless?It is now nearly 3:00 pm on the East Coast of the United States and according to the banner on the Nokia USA store website pre-orders for the different color models were supposed to be up today. The banner also stated that N8 units would be shipping this week, although in small letters below this they added that dark gray units (the only ones available for pre-order) would start shipping next week. Phone calls placed to customer service are worthless because they have no clue either. The Nokia USA store would have been better off not putting up any details at all on the banner if customer service and store employees cannot even support or provide info on the banner statements.

UPDATE: I just received an email stating that my pre-order was being “prepared for shipment”. I am not sure how long this phase goes on before they ship, but if they get it out today then it looks like they meet the shipping this week plan. I suppose that makes sense since they met the Q3 shipping plan the same way, huh?

UPDATE 2: And now I see that my PayPal smartphone fund credit card has been charged the $610.98 for the N8! Yeah, it looks like I will have my dark gray one early next week so I won’t have to go without one as I send the blue eval N8 back to Nokia next Friday.

UPDATE 3: And now you can pre-order the colored ones! At this time you have to first add a dark gray one (only available) to your cart, then select cancel from the pop-up, then the color options appear (all five), then select a color one and add it to your cart. The site states the colored ones will be available in October November. I placed my orange pre-order andwill  then make a decision on whether to keep the dark gray one when it arrives. I really want orange, but may just stick with the dark gray if it is attractive. Funny, the dark gray one no longer appears as an option. I will check it out when it arrives and may cancel the orange order if I like it. I really like the orange one I saw at Nokia World though.

UPDATE 4: It is now 8:00 PM Pacific Time and I just received an email that my N8 has shipped. There is no tracking info, but that might appear tomorrow. I bought the expedited shipping so imagine it should be here by Tuesday at the latest. Stay tuned for some blue vs gray N8 photos next week and several more articles.

I have just one week left with the evaluation N8 and then have to ship it back to Nokia so someone else can check it out. I was pretty confident that my own N8 would be in hand, but since the Nokia USA store seems clueless my confidence in a unit actually arriving before the end of next week is not very high.

Creating confusion with banners and ordering details is not a good way to foster enthusiasm for a device and a company that can use all the support they can get here in the US. It looked like US buyers would be one of the first to actually get their ordered devices shipped, following the early pre-order launch, but that doesn’t seem to be the case. I am sorry that readers who pre-ordered them do not have them yet and am working as hard as I can to answer questions and provide you with information on functionality and performance. I have several posts, with videos, planned for next week too so stay tuned.

So the pre-orders would ship later than the new orders? Doesn’t that entirely defeat the purpose of a pre-order? That’s definitely jacked up.

Of course Nokia USA are clueless.But they’re not far off from the people at headquarters.At least regarding shipping dates.Remember the conflicting statements that were coming from Nokia a few weeks ago about a worldwide delay? I made my preorder for the N8 on August 18th.I was hoping I’d have it by now.But I gave up up trying to figure out when it’ll come.The only thing I’d like to say is this is my LAST preorder form Nokia.Still love the N8 and hopefully next week we’ll have our preorders shipped.Nokia is SLOW..OH SO SLOWWWWW.Luckily change is being forced upon them by the market.

So the shipping for pre-orders sounds familiar to the problems many experienced with the N97. Are you really surprised? If so you shouldn’t be. Since the s/w for the U.S. is different than the rest of the world, I hope the rest of the N97 issues don’t materialize.

I’m loving my Samsung Galaxy and seriously doubt that I’ll be buying a N8, and thus will not be back to Nokia until at least maybe the E7. Looking at Ovi Store vs Android Market I just don’t see anything in Ovi that will being me back. I wanted the N8 for the camera, and given I need a phone and want many apps it doesn’t make sense to get a phone for the camera.

This isn’t the first time the Nokia USA store has borked pre-orders. I’ve always stayed away as a result. Amazon says 1-2 months, though.

When I spoke with Nokia USA Store customer service yesterday, they reminded me that THIS WEEK ends on Sunday night (not Friday).

I reminded them that they couldn’t SHIP on Sundays (proving that their “shipping this week” banner was pretty much a blatant lie).

I wouldn’t be surprised if pre-ordering for the other colors doesn’t show up until Monday morning.

Another thing that is anoying for preorder customers is that it seems you can buy the N8 in flagship stores in Finland and China.Don’t know if it’s true or not but if it is it’s another slap in the face for the people who’ve preordered.

Just awful. Like Ricky said what was the point of pre-ordering then?! Thank you Matthew for looking into this/even commenting. As much as I respect Nokia and am looking forward to this phone, they’ve bungled this launch. It’s dumb and they need to be called out on it, end of story! That banner on the Nokia USA site makes no sense at all. I really really miss the flagship stores they had in the States…

I’ve had this issue with them several times. Do you remember when they canceled all the pre-orders for the N900 a week before they were to start shipping? Or how they can’t take orders for devices they don’t have in stock? Or how if you order on-line, and their site flubs it, it locks you out for weeks, and even the phone reps can’t override it so you can just order a device?

Their whole system is useless. Many times I feel I got my device in spite of the Nokia US sales group, not because of them…

It’s in Chicago, and the have the N8 in stock so if there are any peeps in Chicago, save yourself the shipping and go pick one up!

the wedsite is a joke. it duplicated my pre-order, which i called in to correct and they did correct. Then on Saturday i checked my nokia account and my order was cancelled. Tried to order on the phone, no help. Re-ordered on the site…error order could not be completed…called in got transferred around…WTF! Don’t they want the sale? I’m just going to wait for Amazon. Maybe i’ll wait for WP7 from HTC. Damn Nokia!!!

Enzro:if you try more than 3 times their system ‘blacklists’ you and you cannot orer. I had to go through this. Only way around it is order in someone elses name…you cannot use ANY details that are similar like the address etc.

Or wait 5 business days till your informations clear from the system.

Not really on topic, but I ordered an X3-02 and its going to be delivered on Tuesday. The X3-02 looks like an extraordinarly cool phone, and a very good price for a high quality GSM phone. I just want to make calls and send some texts. The N8 would be overkill for me. I know that I am bucking the smartphone craze, but I like the X3-02.

Ha, I called to cancel the orange 2nd order after deciding to just keep my dark gray one. I also received a shipping notice with no tracking info. Unfortunately, their system is down (that’s what they say) and they cannot access anything at all so then why are they even at work today? Seems to me the Nokia USA store is a bit of a failed experiment in so many ways.

I have the same scenario here too Matthew, but the rep I spoke to was going to call me back with my tracking info. She said that the system was being worked on and will be up within an hour or so. This is one rep that didn’t make me hate Nokia USA support, lol… Still have my momentum going, so I can’t wait to have my phone within the week =)

Ah the joys of ordering through NOKIAUSA! =/ not fun at all… My first try on payment, put a hold on my card by my card which I then called and removed. second try gave me an “unexpected error”. And now when I called the Nokia sales dept. they said try to call back after 3-4hrs wtf?! and oh he said our system is down, you shouldn’t have tried after first time.. lol ya like they have a gene which’d come to me and tell me their system is down. NOKIA is good but NOKIAUSA is in *****! ugh =(

@jerry: I did try to ask for %10 discount, that nathan guy had plain NO! =/
