i think it's a nice idea... However real names would be great... Once I was in saudi arabia, and there they actually name the nokia phones. For instance nokia 6600 was "the panda", another was "the bee", it made identifying phones that much easier especially for phones with four-digit names like nokia1234, nseries eseries names are easier to remember but still names are much better. I like tom's suggestion though.

It's a nice idea, but confusing over the long term.

Just 1-9? What happens when they replace a phone in the lineup, call it the X6A? Or do they just re-use the number? I have a Nokia 1000 -- the analog one, not the digital Nokia 1000.

Maybe they can tag the number after a descriptive name.. the "Wombat E5" would be this year's cool mid-level enterprise phone, while the "Zebra E5" is the 2015 version...

I think this is a great move for Nokia as it was very difficult for end-users to correctly understand the differences between.

For independent software development companies, this will help for sure to easily target and support the right line of product to support.

The only issue remain is that Nokia has still a 2 OS development strategy and this is still a risk for them IMHO. I guess that having the same dev. tool for both (QT) may help but I doubt.

Instead of putting effort in Symbian and making it "touchable", I would instead keep MeeGo for X and N Series while using S60 3rd FP2 and beyond for keyboard centric type of devices...
