N97 for you and you and you! Preorders should ship with Flagship availability

No N97 for you! Is Nokia really going to sell the N97 at Flagship stores before pre-order loyal fans?Last night while at my daughter’s soccer practice I read the following Tweet from Chris Ziegler, Engadget Mobile editor, “I am literally beside myself that I’ll have an N97 NAM tomorrow. what an unexpected surprise!” I quickly sent him a reply to find out if it was a review unit or a pre-order unit and he said neither. Apparently the Nokia N97 NAM units will be available at the Chicago and New York Flagship stores today, 9 June 2009. While this is good and exciting news for those living in these two cities, especially given the rather uninspiring iPhone 3GS news yesterday, I am VERY DISAPPOINTED that Nokia is blowing yet another launch here in the US. HAPPY to report that preorder buyers should also get a shipping confirmation today!

There were a few issues and blown opportunities with the launch of the excellent Nokia 5800 XpressMusic device and now it appears Nokia may get this launch right after learning some lessons with the 5800. is sticking it to all of us who pre-ordered the Nokia N97 over a month ago. Those fans who made a commitment to buy the N97, many of who will never get any hands-on time with it before it arrives and some who have been reportedly charged already, have no idea when they will get their N97. Yet, those who are lucky enough to live in Chicago or New York will be able to walk into a store, try out the device, and then purchase one on the spot. Am I jealous of these folks? You betcha I am and I do think it is great for those who can walk in tomorrow and pick one up. However, Nokia really should honor the pre-orders first and make their most ardent fans happy. What is the point of pre-ordering the device if you don’t get it first?

I will be really ticked off if the Nokia pre-orders ship out after the Amazon, Dell, and other online retailer orders and will definitely think twice before ordering from Nokia USA ever again.

I was hoping Nokia could get a launch right here in the US and it looks like they just might. but it appears they may blow another opportunity and actually enrage some of their most ardent enthusiasts. With launches like this, I can see why Nokia is not as successful as they could be here in the US.

UPDATE: Sorry about jumping to conclusions Nokia and fellow readers. I should have given Nokia time to respond and am sorry for my childish behavior with this first post. Please forgive me and don’t move my N97 preorder to the bottom of the pile ;)

I do think the AT&T E71x launch went pretty well and have actually seen the commercial with the E71x featured several times on TV.

I just saw my bank account pending my transaction for my pre-order back in may, so I better get tracking number very soon. I live in Cali, and you would think that they would put a Nokia Flagship store here, but who ever runs Nokia USA obviously doesn’t understand Marketing and Location! How do you expect to re-enter the US Market, when you don’t even try?!? And don’t give me that stuff about your dedicated labs for the US, which up to now have not brought awareness or even one quality smartphone for the US market! Anyway, still I would rather be one of few to carry a great phone that doesn’t comfort to carrier branding limitations!

This is very frustrating news for those of us who pre-ordered this phone. Come on Nokia, don’t let us down!

Good luck everyone. I tried calling to check on my order and just get a busy signal. May be good news if Nokia is swamped, right?

Cancelled my Amazon order and placed one through Nokia right now. The site says they are “In Stock” and there’s new banners saying get the N97 today. So here’s to hoping with overnight shipping I’ll have mine tomorrow :) or Thursday at least!

I, too, have pre ordered a white version but have not received any notification yet. The charge on my credit card has been pending since may but was recently removed a few minutes ago. For those who received a shipping confirmation for the white version, did they remove the pending transaction prior to shipment? I checked my order and it’s still there but with a blank status. Now both versions are in stock on the nokia website and yet still no shipping confirmation for me. Makes me wonder why I pre ordered in the first place.

Nice! I work at 1pm, but hopefully it gets delivered before I start my shift… Maybe if it arrives at my local fedex, I’ll pick it up from there sooner. Just have to keep track of it online.

Well still nothing for me. I have called 3 times and every time they told me it will be shipping tomorrow. I have had it with this ****. I am ready to cancel my order, the iPhone comes out next week and I know that I can get it on Friday for sure. This has been the worst experience of any phone that I have purchased…..

I called Nokia’s sale’s line about a dozen time but still has not been able to get past the long wait. I am in the same boat as Jon. No confirmation, blank status. Seems like they left a charge on my credit card but the amount charged was way off. This is my first time dealing with Nokiausa.com… probably be my last.

Never order from nokiausa.com . they have poor customer service, and if something happens they take ur phone and never return it, or send you a new one. Beware. I already complained to the BBB
