Nokia N97 available soon for less than the iPhone 3GS and requires no contract
So yesterday the big news in the mobile phone space was the announcement of the iPhone 3GS that brings a faster processor, video capture support, 3 megapixel camera, a compass, voice control, and longer battery life. I was pleased with the news because it made my pre-order of the Nokia N97 seem all that more desirable as I will be passing up this iPhone update. As Nokia fans all know, the N97 already has all of this and more (FM transmitter, FM radio, integrated 32GB with microSD expandability currently limited to 16GB with future expansion up to 32GB more when the cards are available, 5 megapixel camera, hardware keyboard, full Bluetooth profile support, and much more). If Apple would have shown off an iPhone with a physical keyboard I would have considered it.
The Nokia N97, in its SIM-unlocked, no-contract state actually is even a better deal than the new iPhone 3GS for existing AT&T customers. If you are not a new customer or a valued customer eligible for an early upgrade then you will need to pay $699 for the 32GB iPhone 3GS and still have a device locked to AT&T to sign up for another two-year contract. The Nokia N97 full retail is $699 with NO contract and completely unlocked for worldwide use, but you can find it for less at places like Amazon and Dell (something on the order of $600).

Matt, those were my thoughts too after the “big” Apple news. I was afraid that I would really want the “new” iPhone even though I had pre-ordered the N-97. I am definitely glad that I did now!!!!!
You dont realy think apple adding a 3mp camera with 30fps video recording & a compass will make much of a dent on the N97 even though the better nokia product/OS is cheeper just shows how apple like to rip people of more than nokia do:O (sorry UK user)we get robbed by all.

If only Nokia phones worked with T-Mobile US 3G network… I’m not willing to change my network just to get a new phone.
June 9, 2009
I’ve been an AT&T customer for some time now, the service is good and all, but if making a deal with Tmobile is what Nokia needs to do then, I say go for it. It seems that it could be a better relationship. Anyone know what Tmobile is like overseas are they restrictive with bloatware and such, I’d just like to see Nokia shine in the states and it seems AT&T is not willing though, I thought Cingular was more prone to Nokia, could be wrong though.

Made the move. I wanted to wait to see what the new iPhone had to offer and well…. totally underwhelmed. So Amazon got my pre-order today. SOOOO looking forward to getting it. I hope they ship earlier than expected!

Personally, I think you all are insane, although that is my personal opinion. There are several issues I want to cover. I think the iPhone 3GS is much better than the N97.
First of all: The camera
No, I am not saying that the 3GS camera is better, but I cannot YET say the N97 is better than the iPhone. Here’s why. Megapixel is a key factor. However, a higher megapixel count DOES NOT necessarily mean a higher picture quality. An example of this is the Verizon LG Dare(3.2 mp) vs. the Lg. EnV (2 mp). In this example, the picture qualities are around the same, if not the EnV triumphs.
Second: Applications
What applications does the N97 offer? And, while we are on the topic, what are the HUGE advantages of the N97 over the iPhone 3GS? When it comes to applications, the AppStore by Apple triumphs Nokia’s. Lets compare: 50,000>1,000. Hmm… that’s a close one… Really, there is no competition. Furthermore, to the contradiction of some anti-iPhone people, there are many productivity and business apps for the iPhone, as well as recreational apps. I’m obviously not enlightened about this N97 hype.
Third: eMail
eMail is eMail. MobileMe is, by my experiences, perfect. I don’t see the N97 advantages.
Fourth: Browser
Using my (1st Gen, 2.0 software) iPod Touch, I have experienced only a piece of Safari’s Mobile Browser capabilities, and I could not be happier with it. When I plan to purchase the iPhone 3GS 32GB, I plan to enjoy an even faster browser.
Fifth: Physical Keyboard
WHAT?!?!? THIS IS THE REASON I’M GOING FOR THE IPHONE! On a more formal note, I really love the bar shaped phone, and see no need for a physical keyboard, because since the iPhone’s keyboard is built into the software, it is reliable, spacious, and easy to type on. On my iPod Touch, I can type a 300 word document around twice as fast as on the LG EnV, which has a full, physical QWERTY keyboard.
Sixth: Storage
Wow, complaining about the extra 16GB that the N97 (doesn’t) come with. With my experiences with numerous LG phones, as well as a Motorola phone, data saved on an SD card takes a much longer time to load. 32 GB is still very good (and this is applied for both phones). I don’t see why you would need more memory. THESE ARE PHONES, NOT NETBOOKS/LAPTOPS.
Seventh: Pricing
This article made it way too biased. I can understand the Nokia Experts bias, but this was a little much! Most people who are going to get the 3GS do not own the 3G. People who are going to buy it are more than likely a): Existing ATT customers at the end of their contract, b): Original iPhone (first gen) customers, or c): Customers from other carriers (like with me, Verizon) who wanted to switch to ATT to get the iPhone, but decided to wait out for the 3rd Gen. So, in the end… $299 < $699.
Eighth: … I have much more to say, but you all by now have probably stopped reading.
OVERALL, I WANT YOU TO ENLIGHTEN ME. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t own an iPhone, and I am not a iPhone junkee. I just do my research and enjoy the iPhone OS much more than any other mobile device I have dealt with.
What am I missing? What are the great features of the N97 that the 3GS lacks, besides a camera flash, or flash support. UNLESS someone convinces me, I am going to end my expired Verizon contract with an LG Chocolate, and switch to a 32 GB Black iPhone 3Gs.
Thanks for your input.

How about voice commands built into the MP3 player? Thats perfect for driving…does the Nokia have anything like that?
I’m also a gamer and love my iPhone games…and I dont think anyone is going to get rich writing applications for the Nokia smart phone.
The advantage to an onscreen keyboard? Its DYNAMIC! That means the keys can change to fit whatever you are doing. This also means multi-language compatibility. I dont think your standard QWERTY chicklet keyboard can do that.
June 10, 2009
This is a response to Conservative MB AMG You stated that you wanted to cover some issues comparing the N97 to the iPhone. I can assure you that you made yourself look like a complete iDiot saying what you said.
Your first point was the camera. You said that you can not say the iPhone camera is better nor point out any reason why the 5MP Carl Zeis camera on the N97 is worse. You then rave about two of the worse phones (not even smartphones) on the Verizon network. That’s a typical American thing to do. Cameras on phones rely mostly on their lenses, then after that, it is the way the phone processes the digital image to display. The 5MP camera standard on Nokia smartphones has beat out 8MP cameras on other brands soley because of the lens alone. The Nokia camera is not only better than the iPhone, but the iPhone is so far behind lacking a flash, video light, and all the STANDARD settings on every other phone.
You then go on to ramble about applications. You are right about the applications. There is an application store for iGnorant users (oops, iPhone users), which has an immediate kill switch in Apples headquarters. Real smartphone users, since we all think outside the box, can go anywhere to get them. We don’t like what Nokia has given us, we go somewhere else. The internet is our playground, not some box full of toys. By thea way, get your facts straight, Apple stated that there are 30,000 Apps, not 50,000, most of which, said by iPhone users, to be completely garbage and useless. For example, iFart, DrinkBuddy, and the stupid one to help you find your way to your car. We don’t need 50 applications to do one thing. We need to find our car, we look at our maps, which include turn-by-turn directions. One reason why a lot of S60 applications are free is because the people that use these powerful phones make the applications they want and give them to the world. It’s one reason why all our applications are more powerful.
Email: this is funny. “Email is email,” according to you. So how can one device be better? While you were trying to make your point about how the iPhone was better, you shot yourself in the foot. You said that MobileMe is perfect. Paying for email is the lamest thing I have ever heard. Email is free everywhere, it should be on phones as well. To pay for something like email, you must be desperate. You don’t see the N97 advantages because you are stupid. The Nseries phones have been ahead of other smartphones for a while now. They support more email and have easy to use clients (set-up and use), and we have tons of 3rd party email applications as well.
Browser, another good one. You couldn’t be happier with your browser? You’re missing out. Not only does our native browser support Ajax, Flash, Silverlight, etc, but we can put as many browsers on our phones as we want. We are not restricted by Apples tight-*** strangle hold. I have 4 browsers on my phone. Your response, which is the typical iGnorant response, “Well, I don’t need that many.” We’ll just sit here and laugh at you.
Pysical keyboard. This is a want for powerusers. You threw a little tantrum and said it’s your reason for going for the iPhone. The n97 not only has a qwerty keyboard, it has t9, a mini keyboard, and handwriting recognition. If you don’t understand what that means, try typing 47k Chinese characters on a qwerty keyboard. This is why the n97 is a global phone. You want to use it in the cold with your gloves on? Since it’s resistive, you can. It is the reason why it is made that way. Don’t want to type, and rather write? You can. Can you do that on the iPhone? No. Your excuse, “I don’t need that,” which is the typical response. By your logic, you can type a 300 word document on iPhone compared to a full qwerty. So you are saying you can type faster on a touch screen phone. Studies have proved people can type faster using T9 rather than a full qwerty. So with all that in mind, anyone can type faster, using T9, on the n97’s touch screen. Thank you for proving that point to us.
Storage: You go on and on about your experiences in LG and Motorola phones. In the smartphone market, these aren’t even looked at. You apparently don’t see why you need more storage in a phone…This is the typical Apple logic. “Well, I don’t need that, so I don’t see its purpose.” That was the same logic on the first and second iPhone with lack of MMS, video recording, radio, etc. Instead of complaining about what we don’t need, we get what we need, and then have the ability to have more. You proved your iGnorance in this section. Nice job.
Pricing is another good one. You can not compare a contract to a non contract phone. Either compare both on contracts or both without contracts. So the n97 without contract is $699. The iPhone without contract is $699. Ok…So what point were you trying to make that they are the same price? This proves your lack of thinking.
Enlighten you? I don’t think anyone can enlighten you by your Apple thinking. Every S60 and WiMo smartphone user has proved time and time again why Apple does what it does. It throws millions towards marketing, puts out products with lacking features, and then does small upgrades with time. This is smart on their part. They can keep the user sucked in and always wanting the “upgrade.” I don’t want you to stay with Verizon. Go to AT&T. By sucking money out of the iPhone users, AT&T has more money for infrastructure improvements which makes my cost lower. I also find joy in seeing an iPhone user on the streets showing off their lacking-featured phone. It gives me the opportunity to “school” them in showing them what they can’t do with their phone, but what I could do with mine. I’d also like to point out that the n97 can also multi-task. You know what that means? It means doing a whole bunch of kick-*** **** at the same time. Maybe, if every year, Apple adds 3 basic things that are common on all phones (not just smartphones), every year, in 50 years, they should be able to catch up. iPhone users = iGnorant users.
These are the reasons why Nokia is seen world-wide. For features that people from all over the world want. Apple is playing its American game globally, which I find amusing. I have owned a first gen iPhone so I know how it was in the beginning. I have used, extensively, the 3G as well. I know how it is. So no one can tell me I have not used both.
June 10, 2009
Matt, I’d just like to point out an error in your post. The $699 price for the 32GB iPhone 3G S is for a phone sans contract, albeit not unlocked. Thanks
June 11, 2009
I would like to weigh in on this debate. I just got the nokia n97 after i shattered my 3g iphone screen and all i have to say is that I am unimpressed with the n97. Dont get me wrong it offers more that the iphone can dream but it does not operate as easily as the iphone. The only thing i am going to miss about the n97 is the multi funtionability and the ability and the flash player. Honestly once you go Iphone you dont go back.
June 11, 2009
Well, s4r, SORRY! I did not target people who are Nokia fans. You think I am stupid? I asked the question above in simple words so I could get a clear, helpful response. Since you obviously are the smartest person in the world, why don’t I address you as it.
I, an LG fan, am deciding to purchase a smartphone, and because of your insecure rant that has done nothing to prove your phone quality or features. You misunderstood some of my points and questions. You regarded me as ignorant and idiotic. You obviously don’t know who you are dealing with, and are too insecure with the fact that not everyone is going to agree with you. On a different website, I grilled the iPhone and wanted to know why I shouldn’t go with the Blackberry Storm. Answers were not derogatory and clearly explained the advantages of the iPhone. I decided that since my prior strategy had worked, I decided to try Palm Pre over the iPhone 3GS. I wasn’t convinced, but even though I asked tough (what might have been called pro-iPhone) questions, the answers were clear and constructive, unlike YOUR piteous, futile response. You may call iPhone users ignorant, but I think you are very arrogant and can’t stand to see a phone that can shatter the N97.
When I compared the LG EnV and the LG Dare, I KNOW THEY AREN’T SMART-PHONES!
I want to make my self very clear. I said to ME, MobileMe was perfect. I am acquainted with 9 others who also use MobileMe (3 with iPhones), and say that it is very simple and functional with the iPhone.
What are you trying to say with your (hypocritical) imbecilic point saying that the iPhone has no features? WHAT FEATURES DOES THE N97 HAVE OVER THE IPHONE?! That is what I was asking all along. I know there is Flash player, a slightly better camera (to what it seems by the megapixel count) and multifunction, but that is only three. I am sure that there are others, but you, s4r, have not addressed any of the others clearly at all.
Laugh at me for not needing 4 browsers? You sir, are mentally handicapped if you think that I am the one to be criticized. You said WE’LL laugh at you. Are you trying to imply that other N97 owners are as idiotic and insecure as you? I would doubt that. So tell me: WHY DO I NEED FOR BROWSERS?! To search multiple webpages? Add a new window. You are the ignorant one.
I think you should get YOUR facts straight. There WERE 30,000 applications on the app store, but now at the date of the 3.0 software update, there will be an estimated 50,000 apps. 3,0 will be released when the iPhone 3GS, which I plan to get, comes out (June 17).
By your cretinous vociferating, you have done nothing to prove your point, and has made me think that you can hardly be anybody special or prosperous.
So, can anybody besides the crybaby s4r tell me why the N97 is better. I would greatly appreciate it. Please don’t sound as stupid as s4r. He truly is a disgrace for you N97 owners. Anyway, I am still opened minded, and am willing to consider the N97 before the 3GS is released.
Thank you for your input.
June 11, 2009
As one last comment to s4r, you cannot say that nobody wants the iPhone. How many iPhone 3Gs did Apple sell on opening weekend? 1,000,000, from the information I gathered. And what was Nokia’s bet smartphone debut? Also, you can use any eMail with iPhone, not just Mobile Me. It just shows how narrow minded you are. Your worthless comment stated that the iPhone has no worthwhile features. You are the ignorant one. I do not need a smartphone that packs 4 browsers. THIS IS WHY I want to know other features besides flash, multitasking, or a 5 mp camera. I want a smartphone that can aid and assist me in my high school needs, such as media player, eMail, study tools, business analysis, stocks, and etc., for my honors and AP classes. Yes, you understood me right. I am in high school. I think it is pathetic that you are losing (or should I say lost) a debate against a 14 year old. Pathetic.
June 11, 2009
Wow. A 14 destroys at a debate. That is funny. Anyway, I was considering the Palm Pre, and then a Google Android phone. I am looking at a N97, but conservative’s comments made we want to consider the iPhone 3GS, after some uninterest in the first yen iPhone.
June 11, 2009
Although I think the N97 is a lot better, I do think that s4r pretty stupidly adressed the conservative teen. Anyway MB AMG, the Nokia does offer some other features, such as expndable memory and FM radio. No phone is perfect, and the 3GS is a good competitor, but Ill stick to my N97. Glad I could help.
June 11, 2009
I think both of the comments above are good, and I think that both conservative and s4r have no need to squabble.
. Anyway, considering that he’s 14 and has better logic and a better vocab, I’m sorry to say this to a fellow Nokia expert, but conservative mb amg wins. Anyway, considering you’re in high school, you may want to stick with the iPhone or the Pre. The BB and the N97 are more of business orientated phones, and have little recreational use. The iPhone is a good (actually better) phone, since its good for business and media/games. I’ll just stay loyal to Verizon and wait for the N97 to come out for Verizon.
June 11, 2009
Good to see conservative teens. I think the iPhone is a lot better, since its easier to use and does more with style. The aesthetics are great, too.
June 11, 2009
Despite our conflicting political views, I can tell you’re a smart kid. Anyway, it does seem like you don’t want a physical keyboard. ATT is a pretty lousy company, but then, I feel like Verizon and Sprint are worse, and T-Mobile is too small of a company. I don’t have too many problems with them, but don’t have too many praises for them either.
June 11, 2009
Thanks for the answers. YOUR answers were clear and constructive.
I think at this rate, since I have a MacBook Pro, I’ll more likely make more use of the 3GS. Plus, I enjoy the recreational and media features that the iPhone also offers.
Thanks for your support, too. I just had to debate s4r because he is a fool.
June 11, 2009
s4r, you ARE an idiot. You make a stupid debate by stereotyping Apple users by calling them all stupid, when in reality, it takes a pretty penny to own a Mac and an iPhone. Your arguements are stupid your stereotyping is stupid… YOU ARE STUPID. Go iPhone!
Hail Jamba Juice!
June 11, 2009
Interesting debates. There will always be die hard iphone fans and die hard Nokia fans.
I currently own an iPhone 3G and also owned the original iphone (so I’ve been using them for almost 2 years) and they are definitely great phones but the fact that I can’t get 3Gs for the lower price (I’m in the middle of my ATT contract) annoys me, no way would I pay full price for it. Also, little things have been annoying to like still no MMS (although coming), no Flash in the browser (ridiculous), etc. That coupled with the fact that I’m into technology and always want to try new devices, have made me really think about buying an N97 and giving it a shot. I could always sell it if I don’t like it and go back to the iPhone.
My question is, can I buy one and just pop out my iphone SIM card (I’m in ATT in the US) and pop that in the N97? Does the N97 on ATT in the US currently support MMS?
Thanks JS
June 11, 2009
JS, don’t get the N97. I have had such horrible experiences with Nokia that you shouldn’t bother. My wife feels the same way. Why would you switch? The 3G is the best phone available (along with the 3GS). Really, Apple targeted the 3GS at people who don’t have the iPhone yet, or are 1st gen iPhone users. Don’t feel bad. I’m switching from Verizon to ATT for the 3GS. Don’t feel bad. Stay with your 3G. Trust me. Don’t switch to Nokia.
June 11, 2009
Can we get s4r to respond to this onslaught against him?
June 11, 2009
JS I did you can just change sim cards between the two. If you do try the n97 tell me if youre not impressed with it as well. Part of me wonders if I dislike it so much bc I have a faulty model.
Conservative MB AMG, there was no other way to compare pricing and have a true apples to apples comparison because the N97 is not available in the US with any kind of subsidy. I imagine in Europe you will find the N97 priced at or below the iPhone 3G S pricing so the price of the N97 should be less than the iPhone 3G S on a worldwide comparison basis as well. There was no bias in the pricing, just a direct apples to apples comparison.
I have an iPhone 3G and do think that it is a very user friendly device with a slick UI. Things perform pretty fluidly, which is something that blew me away compared to my Windows Mobile devices. I think the iPhone is much more usable when jailbroken when I can play Pandora in the background and surf or check email.
Some things I like about the Nokia Nseries devices are the build quality, outstanding reception and phone call quality, high quality camera functionality, virtually unlimited customizability and functionality (stream video, play games, surf, copy/paste, and so much more) and memory expansion. The iPhone does many things well, but is more of a media consumption device while the Nseries are media creation devices.
I personally am a huge hardware keyboard fan and miss this on the iPhone.
As I always say, each device appeals to different people for different reasons. I enjoy using all of these great devices covered on the Smartphone Experts family of sites, but have a preference for Nokia. Feel free to speak your mind, but also don’t lose sight of the fact that these are just phones that we use for fun and tools to get things done and enhance our lives.
It’s all good my friends
June 12, 2009
Tatersalad – When you swapped your SIM card, did the data plan just carry over as well (did you have unlimited Internet access as we do on the iPhone)?
I’m curious how that piece would be handled as well.
Also, how is the browser experience compared to the iphone (is it smooth and clear). I know it supports flash which is a HUGE plus in my book over the iPhone.
JS
June 12, 2009
Matthew Miller, THANK YOU SO MUCH! A very good, detailed explanation was what I needed. I now have a somewhat better concept of the phone, but at this rate, the iPhone deal is going to be a done deal. Thanks again!
June 12, 2009
I must agree with “i slapped a monkey”. lol I think the BB and the Nokia Nseries is for business oriented people. I, personally, prefer Nokia. I’ve always had a Nokia and I’ve ugraded each phone as another comes out. The iPhone 3GS, from looking at specs/features/reviews is quite impressive. AT&T has the fastest 3G network right now, and the 3GS has a faster processor than the N97. I don’t know if you’ll be multi-tasking much, but I’m hesitant to see how well the N97 will perform as you try to multi-task with a slower processor. Apple has a lot of applications for your above-mentioned needs (business analysis/stocks/study tools) and is obviously a media player. But I do know that the OVIstore for Nokia also have quite a few applications/widgets that might be of your interest. I guess you’d just have mess with both of these phones and see which you’re more comfortable with! Good luck and hope you’ll be happy with what you go home with! I, myself, should be receiving my N97 in the next coming weeks and will let you know how it performs! Thanks
Matt,
The Nokia N97 is a good deal if the phone is not good. I am going by what the Boygenius said in this review. This device cannot be legitimately compared the iPhone.
http://www.boygeniusreport.com/2009/06/12/nokia-n97-review/#more-27625
Shawn
You mean is not a good deal if the phone is not good? BGR said that the phone functionality itself was outstanding and one of the best available. He mainly had issues with the keyboard.
June 18, 2009
hey guys..m still confused over which phone to buy?? somebody please suggest me..apple iphone 3gs or n97? m looking forward to get a stylish and a good music phone..keeping in mind my requirements i want to get a new phone….
Dude Nokia Phones DO work with TMobile lol. Only outdated service providers like sprint and verizon are too shy to use the GSM-based sim phones. Throw your TMO sim in my Nokia, anytime.
June 19, 2009
the iphone is very stylish, gives that “premium” feeling in the hand and has supperior UI but it all end there. when it comes to functionaliy and reliability nokia is still ahead. As N82 user, I must tell that the capability on N82 far exceeds iphone’s. and when it comes to software, symbian platform indeed has less apps but these app are much more useful than the ones in the app store. for example: aside from out of the box nokia maps and GPS, i was able to download and install Garmin mobile navigation for turn by turn navigation and voice guidance. i heard that tomtom software also available for symbian S60. with joikuspot i was able to turn my phone to a hotspot. Nokia gives there customers more freedom with its open OS. its also run windows 95(not sure its useful!!! but you get the point). i enjoyed playing quake 3 using flat screen TV ( through TV-out func.) and bluetooth keyboard and mouse. N97 will not be big jump for me so i will be waiting for another device in the future(N99 maybe)unless apple come up with something reliable and not just the “I want one” factor that you enjoy for a week.
June 20, 2009
vERIZON DOES NOT WORK WHERE i LIVE. a T& t WORKS GREAT. wHAT PHONE SHOUD i USE?
June 20, 2009
while I have an Iphone 2G now jailbroken. I must say I enjoy the apps esp the games A couple of Cons— No flash on camera so most pics are grainy, also I have to jailbreak my phone to make it personal– Apple wont open up the code so I can tweak it. Also, I find the volume kind of low on the phone. N97– you can personalize homescreen, better camera mind you with the extra storage you can use it as digital camera– also I prefer having both keyboards. While I am moving I can’t type worth sh–it on qwerty keyboard. In response I think I am going to get an Ipod Touch to keep all those games and music I bought as well as apps and I will buy a N97– anybody sell my 2G on ebay to recover some losses.
June 27, 2009
i’ve seen both phones. N97 rocks! I love the silvery white model.I’ll get one this week!!!!!!!
June 29, 2009

Some help me lol and i dont need any critiques either. Thanx in advanced

The true can be on both sides, but s4r seems to be more realistic. N97 is better, I give you some reasons: - FM transmitter, verry useful in car. - Compatible with software like CallManager or PhonePilot (for blocking unwanted calls, answering machine, record a phone call without beeps, managing black lists or white lists from phonebook, automatic SMS answering, very flexible for multiple scheduling). I think , for a phone, this is most important software. Have you on iPhone something similar?? - On N97 I can use various navigation software (=> a good map coverage everywhere) - I can view and edit office documents everywhere with my Nokia. - Can you see with iPhone movies with subtitles in diferent languages? On N97 I can, with SmartMovie. Maybe for iPhone zou have another arguments, but I consider my arguments more important for my needs.

Conservative MB AMG is not 14 years old period.
August 4, 2009
I have ordered a N97 why?
- It has everything I need !!
- I have been more than saisfied with my N95 over the last couple of years it started out good and Nokia kept improving with updates.
- The spec is amazing
- I know from experiece Nokia will keep improving it.
- I tested it against others.
Their is nothing wrong with iphones I hear the user interface experience is really good.
I think it comes down to what you have been used to or what suits you.
I always had a little grudge against the world paying over the odds for iPods when many other media players did the same or beter job for much less. many people didn’t even know their was an alternative or what to call it they just new that others had an “ipod” and they must have one.
There is a sector of people who just buy what they think is best (the hype) Whatever I buy i always read up on it study the specs try it out, after all its a lot of money and i will be stuck with it until my 18 month contract runs out.
The arguments go on xbox vs PS3….
Its down to personal preference or what you need out of it.

its kinda like mac vs linux type thing there both great… Mac = media linux = servers, buisiness and uses alot of 3rd party apps and opensource Linux will win as symbian = linux i will always stick by it and also symbian is going opensource as well so we can modify the os as much as we want and theres M1 for a google android emulator so i think N97 is better in every way because of customizability and the expandable memory (very handy for movies and lots of music also pc backups…) and i also wrote this comment on my N97… It took me about 2mins MAX and i dont have to fiddle with the very narrow iphone onscreen keyboard which is absolutely **** i love watching bbc iplayer and multitasking i’ve got about 7 apps running atm and it hasn’t slowed down a bit… So N97 owns iphone and it always will don’t complain and moan to me its just like John said “It’s down to personal preference” which is exactly my case…
