Nokia N900 now shipping in the US!

Nice. However, from what I read the device does not support AT&T 3G so I cannot use it.

It is still unclear if the device made it to all the distributors or not. From what Nokia told me, those that had pre-ordered the device from NokiaUSA.com would have there devices shipped this week. So I am assuming that stores are getting them and shipping later than Nokia. Maybe Nokia is finally shipping pre-orders BEFORE Amazon.com, Dell.com, NewEgg.com, etc.

I just called Nokia’s NYC flagship store and was told by Sam that the phone isn’t available for sale. I also asked if they had a unit on display and was surprised to hear they didn’t. I was actually at the store last week, but the unit on display was broken – it wouldn’t start. Sam at the end confirmed that Nokia’s press release was erroneous! Bizarre!

so, if it does not get full 3G on AT&T, what US providers will it work with completely?

What a Joke! Not the N900 but the shipping. Not even available at the flagship stores.

@Briggs – It works on T-Mobile’s 3G frequency. @Dwight – Customers have reported receiving their devices from NYC flagship store that have pre-ordered it. NewEgg.com says the release is the 30th of November. NokiaUSA told me that pre-ordered devices are starting to ship already.

Nokia, if you wanted to make a U.S. version why didn’t you make it 850/1700/1900 HSDPA? Instead of making it 3G on the largest U.S. GSM carrier you make it 3G on the smallest of all U.S. carriers with almost no 3G coverage. More Nokia brilliance. Is that gun you keep shooting your foot with ever going to run out of bullets?

@Tim B. – A good reason is that it might be a subsidized phone from T-Mobile.

I talked to someone I know that works for T-Mobile. From what he heard, it would make it on the network possibly Q1 of 2010. Just a rumor. AT&T doesn’t like competition on their network with the iPhone and the only way to penetrate the U.S. market is to get a carrier to take up the device. It would only be logical to pick T-Mobile.

@TimB – While I would be hard pressed to defend the historically incompetent marketing at Nokia, at least with regard to the US Market, in this case I think they have a winner. I am a long time ATT customer and ready to bolt. The new plans announced by TMobile are the best out there and require no contract. TMobile is also launching HSPA+ which will kill ATT’s claim to the fastest network. There is always Edge to fall back on when needed, and that is all I get at home anyway. Lastly for those of us that travel, 2100 is essential as that is the most common world wide.

I tried the phone at the NY nokia flagship store. I really wanted to love this phone. I am a longtime nokia fan.

The phone is chunky, but I can live with that. The keyboard is pretty nice. The screen really is not as responsive as a capacitive screen — i was having lots of frustration with clicking on links in the browser. The browser was slow running on wifi in the showroom — not sure why, the rep claimed it was because there was no sim card in it??? I didn’t get that.

I am so sad. I went in there pretty determined to buy it but left empty handed.

its not a capacitive screen, it’s is resistive screen. so you need to put pressure when using it.
