Nokia N900 or N97? Both sound good to me
With the announcement of the Nokia N900 and the slider QWERTY form factor it was a given that people would compare the two. I plan to do the same once my N900 arrives, but until that happens check out this initial comparison that gives some good advice. One thing I would add for US citizens is that you get 3G with the N97 on AT&T and 3G with the N900 on T-Mobile so this may make that decision much easier.

I personally have been using my N97 with my T-Mobile SIM and it performs just fine. Gravity and Nokia Email work just fine over an EDGE connection and I only miss the 3G when web surfing. My N900 is on pre-order and I am VERY excited about getting it running with T-Mobile 3G. I think it will compare well with my T-Mobile Touch Pro2, which is an excellent device with this same type of QWERTY sliding form factor.
Are there any readers out there who will have both to compare too?

The N900 seems light years beyond the N97, which to be honest even if it came out 2 years ago would have been far from ground breaking.
I’ll be watching the N900 progress and have high hopes for it.

I’ve been a tad underwhelmed with the N97. I’m on AT&T and would never switch to T-Mobile for the N900, though.

I hope the N900 price goes down by Christmas time. Self gift? Maybe

i’d go with the n97 mini before the n97…. That being said, the n900 will be mine!!! Bwaaahahahahahaaaaaaa!
I was extremely disappointed with the N97 and as such, have set my expectations very low for the N900. I already pre-ordered the N900 though so it will be interesting to comare the two side by side.

In most respects yes. One way the N97 is better: digital compass, N900 does not have it.

A couple of new entrants (network up late this year or early next) will use the 1700 Mhz band. You don’t have long to wait if you don’t mind switching carriers.

Anyone know where I can see T-Mobile USA’s coverage map just for the 1700 MHz band? Ones I found is an overlap with their 1900 coverage.

StarTac Fan you could just go to any map. Basically it doesn’t exist so just go to maps.google.com. j/k. actually there is a link next to the map for me that allows you to show 3G under the data tab.
@StarTAC Fan A digital compass is nice, but for me its hardly a must have.

No offense to anyone, but i must say that after reading this i cant understand why is the american phone market so complicated? Why cant u just buy the phone in a store and put the SIM card that you want in it?

we’re not getting almost all the facility that came with the n900 and n97 series cos there is no AT&T neither T-mobile so to a nigerian both phone will not have a better market in here. If u want us rushing all those latest phones let the AT&T and T-mobile come to nigeria. Safe.

having used both, the only way i’d prefer my n900 now was if it had the same physical design as the n97. i love the n97, it’s a fantastic piece of kit, but the n900 outstrips it in almost every way. put simply if i was typing this on an n97 it probably would have crashed the browser by now. but it hasn’t because i’m using an n900.
