Nokia and Microsoft launch Communicator Mobile
Microsoft and Nokia have worked together in the past, primarily on licensing Exchange ActiveSync for Nokia devices. Last August, Microsoft and Nokia announced a global alliance to deliver productivity solutions to Nokia smartphones and today we see the first fruits of that partnership with Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia devices announcement. The new application is available in the Ovi Store now for Nokia Eseries (initially the E72 and E52 only) devices. It will be preinstalled on future Nokia smartphones, including the new E5.
While I have an Exchange server at work I have yet to use Microsoft Communicator on my PC. I understand it is an unified communications tool with IM, voice, desktop and video sharing capabilities and integrates into Office and SharePoint. The new Communicator Mobile tool enables Nokia Eseries owners to conduct some of these communications from their smartphone rather than their PC, including IM to email and text to phone calls. Names and status of coworkers is embedded into the Contacts application so you can manage your presence and conduct IM sessions. It seems this is similar to a BlackBerry Messenger experience for Microsoft product users.

I have recently upgraded to e72 from e71x. The e72 is an incredible tool. The Mail for Exchange application works really well. I do all my syncing through it. At home, I connect to my hosted Exchange account with Outlook. All of my mail, contacts, and calendar are updated all the time, at home, at the office, on my phone. To top it all off, I am now typing this email using my e72 as an Internet hub, via Bluetooth. Great job, Nokia!
