Nokia Experts N97 contest finalists selected, check them out
I finally had a chance to go through all of the Nokia N97 contest entries and selected my favorite 5 entries. I am going to ask the Smartphone Experts editors to let me know which is their favorite and will use their input to decide on the winner of the N97. Feel free to leave a comment with your favorite as well.
I want to first thank you all for the 45+ entries we received for this contest. There were many great entries and it was tough to narrow it down. I am sorry if your entry was not picked at this time. We will have more contests in the future so please keep an eye on the site for them. I was quite surprised to see how many college students are reading Nokia Experts and that is encouraging since maybe these young people will have an impact in the mobile space in their futures.
Entry 1: Edan

Entry 2: Teresa
Entry 3: David
Dave included this text with his entry that also has a video. He also posted a Tweet and a photo so he covered all the bases with his entry.Dear Mr. Nokia Expert AKA Matthew Miller,I couldn’t decide how exactly to enter this contest, so I figured I’d give you the whole gamut! At the bottom of this email are links and attachments to all sorts of materials that should prove to you how much I want this device!
My name is Dave Koster, a 4th year Marketing student at the Rochester Institute of Technology. I am an avid reader of yours and other Nokia/Symbian related blogs, and upon seeing your contest it only took a quick glance at my now aging Nokia N95-3 for me to decide to put my best foot forward.
You ask that I make an argument for myself being more deserving of this device than anyone else. I thought about this for a while, and I considered my options on how to accomplish this goal.
I could be funny! I could make a video mocking the ridiculousness that is my n95 dropping my call 4 times during a conversation with my girlfriend (This happened literally hours before I started writing this). Or show just how lost I am when I forget it at home.
I could point out the fact that I almost completely rely on this device – to the point where I am nearly incompetent without it! I mean, I it’s my day planner, it’s my contact manager, it’s my mp3 player, it’s my camera, it’s my primary email device, it’s even a Bluetooth modem for my laptop!
I could be pathetic! PLEASE LET ME WIN THIS CONTEST OH PLEASE OH PLEASE OH PLEASE!!!! (maybe not…)
I could just throw marketing jargon at you! The N97 would allow me to be a more competent individual by synergizing my personal and professional lifestyles into one complete experience defined by qualities of convergence and effectiveness.
I figured by best course of action, however, was to simply be candid. To be completely honest, the reason I want this phone is because I’m a nerd. Not just a technical nerd, but a business nerd and a mobile nerd. I’m absolutely fascinated by the mobile industry as a whole. I’ve written papers, given presentations, and given speeches on it. I even traveled to New York City to spend a day with one of Nokia’s sales representatives for an assignment. In fact, upon graduating this year I have every intention of applying for a job with Nokia. For proof, I’ve attached two of my assignments to this email.
The entire reason I have an N95 to begin with is because at the time of my purchase 2 years ago it symbolized everything the mobile industry could be – a true mobile computer. Nokia pioneered this idea more than anyone else, showing how convergence can truly impact one’s lifestyle. I’ve always loved computers, and upon seeing and experiencing the N95, I knew this is where the world of computers was moving. Looking at the mobile industry today, just two years later, I’d say it’s already starting to happen.
So, in conclusion, I hope you can see above all else that if I were to win this phone – it would be in good hands. I can guarantee you this much if I win: It will be truly loved, and most certainly used to every bit of its potential.
Entry 4: Joe
Joe included an image with his entry that I thought was rather creative and took some time to construct. Visit this link to see the image.Entry 5: Josiah
There were several college student entries in this contest and I enjoyed hearing what Josiah has been working on and it shows some real initiative while in college studying.8 Comments to Nokia Experts N97 contest finalists selected, check them out

Great entries! Entry 1: cute and creative… Entry 2: too verbose and…markety Entry 3: may be a life-changing experience to own this phone Entry 4: good graphics but..lacking ingenuity Entry 5: A plea from SE Idaho! Honest and genuine!
Hard to decide between these finalists but I would go for either Entry 3 or 5!

Whoa! They have internet is Southeast Idaho!? Josiah’s simple honesty (and hailing from my state) earns him top pick in my book.
The other entries earned their top spots but don’t speak to me like Josiah’s sincerity.
Entries are all very interesting however no. 5 seems to have the most impressive technical application and Josiah would not only benefit from receiving the phone but also has amazing opportunity to promote nokia phones. Advancement in mobile applications and programming may soon take over the marketing and social networking world. Therefore I would go for no. 5 and keep track of what he will be able to accomplish.
Thank you for including my entry as one of the contest’s finalists!

1 is the most creative and entertaining. No talking head speaking directly into the laptop webcam, either!
Woah! Thanks for choosing me as a finalist!
I’ve updated my webpage (the link posted above) with a link to a typed presentation of my work. I included it as a link rather than on the main page was to keep the page as close as possible to the time of submission, as the presentation was typed post-deadline. The link should also be well below the regular viewing area on most monitors.
The aim of the presentation was to talk about my entry a little bit more, and maybe get some critiques and feedback.
Again, thanks for choosing me as a finalist, a good luck to everyone else!
