I think OPK points to a direction that Nokia might market S60 as its premier OS against MS Windows. That might make inroads to notebook business.

After some year down the road we might see S60 supporting ethernet, vga output and other standards that other OS and notebooks OEM support

I heard some arrangements had already been made to provide symbian a substaintial budget for R&D

Eventually it is all about differentiation and playing nicely with others. If they are going to manufacture laptops, they should foxus on Ovi services integration, great out of the box integration with Nokia handsets, while at the same time still playing nicely with all handsets.

If they don't do that, I don't see the point of bringin out a laptop, except for creating a different revenue stream.

The E90 810 space is beginning to overlap the notebook space. Nokia NEEDS to consider the notbook business when the high end phones become notebook replacements.

My E90 is essentially a notebook replacement for me. I wouldn't want to carry a notebook I couldn't pocket.

I’m somewhat skeptical of Nokia entering the netbook/notebook business myself. But, I can see them retooling their N800 net tablet series like you suggest.

I couldn't agree more. Often times people rush to post a sensational story based on a throw away line some CEO says, without ever thinking what it really means.

It seems really unlikely that Nokia will make a laptop in the traditional sense. More likely, Nokia will try and incorporate laptop like elements, or maybe some of the manufacturing techniques that make netbooks so cheap into their handsets
