Nokia E72 announced with 5 megapixel camera, updated keyboard, 3.5mm headset jack

So we posted on the E72 video just a short while ago and now All About Symbian has all the details on the upcoming Nokia E72. I love my E71/E71x and now I am really lusting after this device and am not sure I can resist this bad boy.

The E72 comes with S60 3rd Edition Feature Pack 2 (just like our AT&T E71x folks), awesome E75-like Nokia Messaging client (Nokia needs to make this available as a download for ALL E71/E71x owners!), 5 megapixel camera, slightly redesigned keyboard with a smaller space bar, 3.5mm headset jack (finally!), compass, and more improvements. It is an incremental upgrade, but a mighty fine one that I think may be added to my collection in the future.

Any other Nokia E71/E71x fans think this looks like an attractive upgrade option?

Will it support T-Mobile’s 1700 MHZ Hsdpa?

Dave; it will not be supporting TMobile’s 1700mHz band; its indeed a nice model, and definitely what was asked for of the E71 right after it was introduced.

Now the money question – why didn’t AT&T wait for this one???

I wish they’d make a CDMA version of this.

I personally prefer the styling of the E71 over this newer E72 model. The E71 seems a lot more subtle and understated with its elegance.

Not yet Shaun. The client on the E75 is much improved with integration of MFE and more right into the client that does look similar to Nokia Email. Hopefully, this will be updated soon for all of us to use though.

The Optical Navi Key (trackpad) in the centre of the D-pad looks pretty neat in the Nokia YouTube video!

I plan to upgrade. I hope it has podcasting and internet radio apps as those are the ones I use the most. Love the 3.5 mm jack. I may get rid of my ipod now. Just wish it wasn’t going to take 2+ months to get this baby.

My only reservation is the speaker being moved to the back of the device. I really liked having it at the top as it made it so much easier to hear.

Supposed to be available third quarter so I would bet US version probably fourth quarter.

I like it and will probably get one but think I will opt for unlocked version this time.

I think the US version will be available at launch, but only through the corp. stores.

You said it. Nokia needs to provide FP2 as a firmware update, too, for E71 users. But, they probably won’t. The Nokia fanbase must be willing to purchase this shiny new gadget, instead.

But, where’s the software innovation, Nokia? Really, it’s not in the core OS. Exciting hardware, itself, is not likely to spur long-term growth in Nokia’s market share.

I’ll keep my E71, thank you, until something genuinely new comes along. I hope Nokia puts that new thing out, but they’re getting kind of addicted to cranking out new hardware without much “new” in the software.

It is a definitely beautiful device too bad T-Mobile only supports EDGE.

T-Mobile is ramping up their support of 3G…just on a different frequency than AT&T. Personally, I think they’ll go under/get bought out before their 3G coverage is for real. :/

Not a big upgrade from the E71x imho, although the trackpad is a nice touch.

For everyone that complains about a 2.5mm jack…just use an adapter. I picked up a genuine Nokia oem adapter off ebay for $3. Adds 3″ to the cable on my headphones – big deal.

If it had a bigger/better screen and more of a leap in software I’d consider it down the road.

I agree with ‘CN’, I like the understated style of the current E71/E71x, Nokia make some cool phones but they sometimes try too hard & end up changing something that was already fine before.

Upgrades are fine, the 5mp camera for example & one or two others, apart form that I love my E71x.

Depending on when its out, what the price is etc, will I ‘upgrade’, possibly, we’ll wait & see.

I’ll be trading in my E71 to get this.. The camera will be a big factor as will FP2 with udp (and speed boost.) lifetime pedestrian navigation is cool as is the added RAM. Great evolution of the best selling qwerty phone of last year. I agree that a higher screen resolution would be great, but I think that’d require a new version of S60.

The only issue is that I told myself that I’d keep the E71 for 2 years before upgrading! Even if I go down to 18 months, that means one more year. At least the price will be down by then.

Nokia E71/E71x/E72 going down as one of the best! S60 rules! In regards to phone, E72 has key hardware upgrades. Will definetely stick to this family of phones after my E71x.
