Nokia E71x in the house
I called around and finally found an AT&T store with the E71x in stock. It isn’t on display yet and I was the first to buy one. I didn’t want to try to save $50 to $75 by begging for an early upgrade and extend my contract so I paid the $299.99 for it. This is still less than what the unlocked model cost me do I am still good with that. New buyers can get it for just $100 after rebate though.
I am extremely happy to report that the purple tiny issue with the camera has been FIXED! Check out this side-by-side shot to see how bad the purple tint is on my E71.
I am bummed to report you cannot move or uninstall the AT&T bloatware though. I will make a post listing all this soon. With an app like Handy Taskman though I should be able to avoid looking at all these folders and icons.
It looks like the latest Nokia Messaging with MFE support may be here so I have to go set that up. Email setup is quite different as I plan to show in a video tonight. There is IM integration with the OZ client too, but with only a 200 text message plan I will be skipping that since it uses SMS for IM and not data. Stay tuned for much more.

You should be able to move most of the bloatware into a ‘****’ folder somewhere, which won’t make it too bad. I keep a ‘****’ folder hidden away in my ‘tools’ folder for just such a purpose.
Can you post some actual photos taken side by side, though?
Lol, guess I should have used the word ‘junk’.

I bought the unlocked E71 @ Best Buy yesterday for around $470.
Expensive, but no at&t bloatware and the silver/gray trim is much nicer than the black with ugly at&t logo.
Julio, I understand wanting an unlocked, but why not buy at Amazon.com and save some $$?
Matt, I’m shocked that the camera is fixed!
Uh oh, the Month view is LAME in the E71x. I love the scrolling Agenda on the right and now it is just a large month view. Not good, cons are looking to outweigh pros here as I will explain in a detailed post with video LATE tonight.

I bought it at Best Buy without looking at Amazon first :-/ LOL! Oh well. I think it’s a better device than my BlackBerry Bold to be honest.

Hi Matt, could you let us know if this is a good representation of Symbian Devices and the unlocked E71 (or other recent Nokia phones)?

I’m pretty sure it’s the same exact thing, except with all that junk at&t loads in it.
However at&t is TERRIBLE when it comes to firmware updates.

Man, I can’t wait to see the review! Make sure to include some shots that show the gloss level of the back plate.
I have the unlocked NAM-2 silver (got the awesome Amazon deal for like $260 on the “gold box deal” or whatever it was called). The camera is **** so I’m glad to see that’s fixed.
If only we could get a FP2 bump (and camera fix) from Nokia for our E71′s,
Unless of course the bad calendar view you mentioned is FP2 and not AT&T’s doing.
The black does look **** though.

OMG, ok just for the record folks, this site is filtering out the word “s e x y” hahaha
For kicks I went to at&t’s website to compared the iphone, bold, and e71x data plans. The e71x looks like the only one that includes cellular video. This looks like it allows you to get TV stations like Fox on your phone. That makes it a better offer to me at the same price data plan as the others. This is the new phone I’m recommending to my friends.
