The Nokia E71x may finally land on AT&T next week
I’ve told readers here several times that the Nokia E71 (see my review) is my favorite S60 device and as a QWERTY keyboard fanatic it doesn’t get much better than this. It has been rumored for several months that the device may actually be picked up by a US carrier and according to The Boy Genius Report we may just see a black E71x on AT&T next week for US$199.99 after rebate and contract.
The black color looks sleek and if you are an AT&T customer that plans to stay with them for a while $200 for this device is a steal! You can pick up a SIM-unlocked model for about $350, which I also think is a fantastic price for such a great device.
I am very curious to see if AT&T hampers the E71 like they did with the E61 when they removed the WiFi radio. AT&T also did add a miniUSB port to the E61 so maybe Nokia was able to tweak it for the good on the E71x.
I am also curious to see if the firmware will be updated over the version we have now in the NAM E71 devices. If it is newer with some updated features, it would be nice to be able to update ours as well. However, Nokia support for updating NAM devices hasn’t been that great and honestly it is tough to blame them since the unlocked Nokia device market in the US is quite small, I imagine.
I am very pleased to see a US carrier picking up ANY S60 smartphone and hope the E71x see amazing sales because then maybe Nokia will start to expand here in the US, which is good for all of us Nokia fans.
