Nokia cutting handset production in response to economic crisis
I read over on Phonescoop this morning that Nokia is cutting production of its handsets in a Finland plant. This is unfortunate, but given the current world economic situation, is about the smartest thing Nokia can do to remain the world’s number one handset maker. US automobile manufacturers should have taken this approach last year and limited production before getting into serious financial trouble.
What is intersting about the Nokia method for this production reduction is that they will lay off workers on a rotational basis rather than permanent job cuts. 20 to 30 percent of the 2,500 person staff will be laid off at a time and rotate through working phases.
I pray that the world soon climbs out of this economic crisis and that all that are willing are able to get back to work and continue to contribute and make the world a better place. I’ll continue to do what I can and purchase Nokia devices as they come off the production line.
