Nokia and AT&T announce Surge with QWERTY for $80
I just finished moving my family plan over to AT&T and am now on a single carrier rather than having AT&T and T-Mobile (one way to reduce our monthly costs during this uncertain economic time). This morning AT&T and Nokia announced another S60 device, the Nokia Surge. The Nokia Surge supports AT&T’s 3G network and includes a slide-out QWERTY keyboard with a focus on messaging at a low price of $79.99. The Surge is scheduled for availability on 19 July.

This was previously rumored as the Nokia Mako and Engadget posted the AT&T specs sheet that show the Surge has the following:
- GPS
- 2 megapixel camera
- Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP
- 2.5mm headset jack
- 128 MB internal memory and microSD card slot
- US 3.5G support on 850/1900 MHz frequencies

My wife and daughters are looking for good QWERTY keyboard phones and this may just be the ticket at $80 so I think we will have to visit the AT&T store early next week.

I’m very curious about this phone, especially concerning the build quality.. The form factor is just so… “odd” with those three buttons to the left of the D-pad.

This is a nice showcase which shows an American designed product, not Nokia designed. And it has much to show, this is a VERY GOOD DESIGN, because:
1) This device has ALL the features possible, not like N-series N97 lack of an email client or E-Series like E71 lacking N-Gage. Americans want all in one product, like the iPhone is, not iPhone E-Series and iPhone N-Series.
2) Very good email client from a specialized company.
3) Very good GPS / maps using an AT&T navigator.
4) Good multimedia, video share, pictures share, good music player, good video player (it was better to have a 5 MP or at least a 3.2 MP camera)
5) And the price is very good as well.
6) Very nice keyboard, I think better than E71.
I want to say also that the drawbacks are the screen size only 2.4″ and the limited resolution 320×240, also the fact that is not a touch device will make many people not interested in it.
I found this article very informative. It’s professionally written and I feel like the author knows the subject very well. nokiaexperts.com keep it that way.
