Nokia announces the E52 with 8 hour talk time
I planned on getting up at 2:30 am this morning to see what the news out of the Nokia Social Communications team was, but my alarm refused to wake me up at this crazy hour. Today Nokia announced the Nokia E52 device that looks to have a slim form factor and incredible 8 hour talk time as the distinguishing features. As you know, I am a huge fan of the Eseries devices because they are rock solid and support messaging functions better than other S60 series.
The Nokia E52 comes in a traditional candy bar form factor with standard phone keypad. The latest Nokia Messaging client, like what we have seen on the Nokia E75, is provided on the E52 as well. It is designed for the mobile enterprise customer who is focused on phone calls with integrated noise cancellation technology and amazing battery life. I don’t know what the battery capacity is, but Nokia’s stated battery life numbers are usually quite accurate.
Specifications of the Nokia E52 include:
- 2.4 inch QVGA (320×240) pixels display
- Integrated 3G radio
- Integrated WiFi, Bluetooth, and GPS receiver
- 3.2 megapixel camera with flash
- microSD card slot
- microUSB connector (for syncing and charging)
- Integrated FM radio
- 3.5mm standard headphone jack
- Dimensions: 4.57 x 1.93 x 0.39
- Weight: 3.46 ounces
Nokia states that the E52 provides easy access to social networking with Ovi, Windows Live, Yahoo IM, Facebook, YouTube, and MySpace. I am curious to see if the Facebook part is just a link to the mobile website in a browser or if this means there is a Facebook client. I imagine Windows Live and Yahoo IM are through their OZ client. I am way too much of a messaging/data fan to go for an Eseries without a keyboard, but this looks like an amazing phone for those focused on calls.
There is no pricing or availability information yet on this new device.

I think I’d still rather get the E55. Too bad it looks like they probably won’t be bringing it stateside. I haven’t really even seen any reviewers get a demo unit yet, do you know?
The battery is the 1500mAh unit.
I actually forgot about this phone and had it confused with the E55.

I read the news first through this article, and since then hoping to get more news. I was wanting to get an E51, and the news of E52, makes me pause.
Any ideas as to when this will be coming to market.
I would also be eager to know as to when this would come to India.

It’s sad. Nokia keeps saying they want more smartphone marketshare in the USA, yet they can’t seem to offer USA versions of their most competitive phones including the E52 that could really make a difference in the US market. The US Nokia Phone Store just told me they have “no plans for the E52 in the USA”. When it comes to the US smartphone market, Nokia is all talk and almost no action. I guess they’re happy to sell mostly $20 AT&T prepaid disposable GoPhones here? Apple, HTC, Samsung and LG will continue to dominate the US smartphone market if Nokia can’t even be bothered to offer phones that work on US 3G data networks.
