Mobile World Congress 09: Nokia announces new Eseries and Ovi Store
I really like my Nokia E71 (see my review) and it is my current favorite S60 device. I didn’t think I would consider another device to replace it, but honestly the Nokia E75 and E55 that were just announced by Nokia today at Mobile World Congress are looking mighty fine. I have said for a couple years that I wanted to see a Nseries device with a SureType keyboard and now we get that in the E55. The SureType keyboard provides two characters per key so the keyboard is much more compact than a full QWERTY keyboard and software is used to predict what you are entering. I also like the new E75 that was announced because it does give you a standard phone keypad to use if you want, but also a full QWERTY for serious text entry. It is going to be tough to keep my money in my wallet with these two, but I just have to keep my eye on the grand prize of the N97.
Even more exciting news to me is the announcement about the upcoming S60 application store, called Ovi Store by Nokia. With over 3.5 million developers and the world’s largest smartphone market share we are going to see some fantastic applications available starting in May on our devices. Even better, Nokia is making the store relevant to your social connections and physical location so there is some customization included in the store.
