Maemo reported to power Nseries after 2012

The statement that Nokia is moving from Symbian to Maemo for high end Nseries devices is no surprise to anyone, especially after we have seen how powerful and capable a device like the Nokia N900 can be. This is the first time we have heard someone official publicly state this and keep in mind this was someone from the Maemo team. I think it makes perfect sense that Symbian lives on in the Eseries and other mid to low end devices while the more capable Maemo is targeted to the high end/geek enthusiast market.

There will still be Symbian-based Nseries devices for the next couple of years and I imagine we will see capacitive touchscreens and more very cool features and functions added to these Symbian Nseries devices in 2010 and 2011. Two years in the mobile space is a long time so we will see how things shake out.

Should be enough time to develop more apps. Hope they bring one out to take advantage of AT&T’s LTE network, which should be turned on by then hopefully.
