JoikuSpot Premium for N900 1.0 available now for less than $10

JoikuSpot Premium for N900 1.0 available now for less than $10Just a few weeks ago I wrote about the beta version of JoikuSpot for the N900 and was able to use it for downloading data when connected to my computer. I spent the last couple of weeks bouncing around with a Sprint Overdrive and Palm Pre Plus with Mobile Hotspot, but tonight when I needed a connection I ended up putting my T-Mobile SIM back into my trusty Nokia N900 and firing up Joikuspot. I then discovered that the beta version had expired and JoikuSpot graduated to a full version, called Premium, for the N900. The great news for those who are reading this site and are probably one of the early adopters is that you can buy JoikuSpot Premium Linux (N900) Edition for just 7 EUR, which is less than half the regular price. This launch price is only available to the first 1,000 people who purchase the application. BTW, this works out to about USD$9.50.

I purchased the full version immediately and am actually posting this entry from my MacBook Pro connected to the N900 wirelessly. With the fast T-Mobile 3G data signal, this solution is awesome and will result in me not needing to turn on the Verizon HotSpot option on the Palm Pre Plus. If you have a Nokia N900 on T-Mobile I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you go buy this application right now.

Good to hear Matt. If I had an N900, I’d purchase this right away, even if I didn’t have an immediate need for it..

Listening to your Mobile Tech Roundup podcasts, I was curious as to why you’d be willing to fork over so much money for other solutions when S60 and Maemo both have Joikuspot. I keep the free version on my E71 ‘just in case’ the need ever arrives.

I don’t have AT&T so Joikuspot on S60 does nothing for me on T-Mobile. I could use Joikuspot on N900 and be quite happy, but am tech writer for other mobile operating systems and a Palm fan. Thus, I have the Pre Plus on Verizon and like having options. If I wasn’t paid to write about phones on ZDNet, then I would just stick with N900 and Joikuspot.

As an FYI, I have tried to use my n900 via Joikuspot as a hotspot for my portable satellite radio player which has network capabilities. The player sees the hotspot but will not allow a connection. I believe that this has something to do with ad-hoc vs infrastructure type connectiion. I belive that Joikuspot only supports ad-hoc WLAN connections. Other than that, it works great when I need to connect my ipod touch at work for itunes downloads on the fly.

T-Mo’s 21 Mb/s HSDPA+ network seems great and JoikuSpot would be a great addition to my N900, but unfortunately, I don’t live in a 3G area. I’ve owned this on my N95 8GB NAM and N97 and was very impressed. Hopefully T-Mo will expand their 3G or Nokia will release a proper GSM device for us in the states.

Update, used it today for a while again to connect my netbook during a cable internet outage. Battery level on n900 got crushed within 20 minutes of use. Gotta be careful or have extra batteries around!

I rarely post on your blog but I follow it regularly but now I gotta say I get more relevant information about Nokia phones from engadget than this blog dedicated to Nokia. You should rename this blog ‘N900 blog’ and stop wasting people’s time. thanks

Hello aiq, glad you follow this site. I understand Engadget posts quite a bit about Nokia and I like to read their materials too. Did you know that I write this site because I am a Nokia fan and it is something I do in my spare time without pay? Engadget has a large full time employee army to write articles so they and other sites will always have more content than you will find here. Most of my posts are about how Nokia is relevant and used in my life, with news about the company posted as it appears.

I do understand that there have been a lot of posts about the N900 over the last few months, but it is the newest Nokia device with a unique operating system.

Is it only for N900? I just wonder it can be used other than N900. What are the phone spec to use JoikuSpot Premium?

I have n900 & T-mobile. Refer joikuspot: Work ok for a few days and now 80 percent of time won’t work on my Viliv S7. Back to using cable to teather. Will keep trying. At $10 I was excited but now pisses me off. 3rd party ****! Too bad. I am a realestate investor and use many systems to keep in contact with my support

I just bought this application and I love it. We used to fight over the internet modem with my wife but now that is no more.

With JoikuSpot am able to enjoy surfing in peace while my wife does the same on her computer. Just lovely.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your good work. I love Nokia too and hence a fun of your blogs.

I have a Nokia N900 but I can’t seem to be able to subscribe to your RSS feeds using the rss reader that comes with the phone. Any idea what I could be doing wrong?
