First impressions of the Nokia E72 appear on Mobile-Review

First impressions of the Nokia E72 appear on Mobile-ReviewI met Eldar from Mobile-Review a couple of years ago at a Mobius event and enjoyed his company. I still don’t understand how he does it, but he gets the opportunity to get hands on mobile phones months before anyone else in the world. Thankfully, he does a super job at posting first impressions and full reviews and sharing all the details with everyone who wants to check out these devices. I just found in my RSS feeds that he posted a pretty detailed first impressions article of the upcoming Nokia E72 (Google translated page) and I am even more excited than ever before now as I have recently been using and still loving my Nokia E71.

I like where he starts out by stating, “By the summer of 2009, Nokia E71 has become the most sold in the world of QWERTY-device, no single device has not been able to catch up with this device from Nokia to run.” Did anyone here happen to read my King of the QWERTYs articles over on my ZDNet site where I awarded the Nokia E71x the top dog of the three devices I compared.

The updated processor, camera, 3.5mm headset jack, and update to Feature Pack 2 are pretty compelling. I also read that you can assign shortcuts to the keyboard and hope that wasn’t something lost in translation. I also read that the full version of QuickOffice is included and not only the reader.

The E72 seems to be the QWERTY to beat this Fall and I can’t wait to get some hands-on time with it.

the faster processor, FP2, and camera are enough to warrant an upgrade for me…any idea on a release date?

[...] Say you’ve got a Nokia E71. Say, further, that you fully intend to upgrade to the E72 the moment it’s available (we can’t say we blame you). If you’d like to know more about the phone by the time it arrives on your doorstep than most people do in the lifetimes of their devices, we might recommend grabbing pork sandwich, a 64-ounce Coke, and your favorite blankie and curling up with mobile-review’s epic “first look.” Spec-wise, the new model is an outright slam dunk over the one it replaces, and it seems that mobile-review generally agrees — sticking points were few and far between though he seems ambivalent on the optical d-pad, and it’s also worth noting that the keyboard is now based on the E63’s design rather than the E71’s. Even if you don’t want to read through the somewhat roughly-translated text, it’s hard to argue with mobile-review’s great photography — and it’s not like you’re seeing an E72 in the flesh today, so you may as well have a look, eh? Eldar is great! I really enjoy his reviews. He doesn’t just write what the manufacturers want to hear, but his true impression of the phone. Also Russia is a free market so they get phones like E72 where as carriers may not like having two phones so similar compete with each other. That’s another reason why the manufacturers let Eldar get his hands on those phones earlier. He does good work. :) I am in line for the E72! I want one in every color, but I will just settle for the Topaz brown. :)
