Enhanced version of Shazam launches, no support for music purchases in the U.S.

Enhanced version of Shazam launches, no support for music purchases in the U.S.I enjoy listening to music and with my Zune HD I am discovering more and more. However, I am horrible at ever remembering a song title or artist and just do not devote any part of my brain to this area of recollection. I listen to local FM radio stations while driving around and used to write down the names when the DJ would state it on scrap pieces of paper so I could look up the song and artist later. I discovered Shazam on my iPhone back when apps were first provided on the iPhone and have been pleased to see this application roll out across other mobile platforms. I mentioned back in August that the Shazam application found in the Ovi Store at launch went from a paid app to a free app, but only until 30 November. We just passed that magical date and I just received a note that an enhanced version of Shazam is now available in the Ovi Store for Nokia devices and can be tried out for 30 days for free. After the 30 days you can continue to use the limited version for free (5 tags per month) or buy it for just $4.99

The enhanced features include the ability to share tagged songs via social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook, preview and purchase tagged songs, watch music videos on YouTube and more that were not listed in the press release. While PR talk is nice, I had to send a reply to find out more about what mechanism is used for purchasing tagged songs since Nokia Music is not supported here in the US and the press release I linked to above was from London. The London press release is pretty clear that Nokia Music is used to purchase the songs so the US marketing team may want to take this part out of the enhanced feature list since it is not supported here.

I plan to load it up now on the Nokia N97 mini and Nokia N86 8MP to see how it performs and will most likely skip a coffee or two and buy the app before the trial expires. I find a useful way to use it is to email the tagged songs to my Evernote account where I can archive the tags and search for them when I have time.

When I finally figured out that my old version of Shazam no longer works (after being baffled by repeated “Shazam is offline, please try later” messages) I tried to download the new version and I get an update error, whether I try to install it on phone or card memory. I don’t want to uninstall the old one because I have several tagged songs waiting to be ID’d which I don’t want to lose. Any suggestions? Thanks.
