Deal alert: Newegg Nokia N900 preorder at $559.99

I had previously pre-ordered a Nokia N900 at Amazon.com for $582.99, but my total went over $600 because I have to pay sales tax being that Amazon HQ is here in Washington State. That is a steep price, even for an early adopter like me. I then received the pre-production N900 I have been writing about and get to use it until January. I then canceled my Amazon order because I figured I would tire of the N900 by January anyways. However, after now have spent a couple of weeks with the N900 I think it is one of the best mobile devices I have ever used and it will only get better. Thus, I started looking for another place to buy my own device.

Deal alert: Newegg Nokia N900 preorder at $559.99

I have used Newegg quite a bit in the past and find them to be super fast at shipping and a real pleasure to buy from. I especially like that I can avoid sales tax, which is over 9% in Washington State. I found the Nokia N900 for $559.99 with free 3-day guaranteed delivery so I just finished pre-ordering the N900 again. The good thing about the delay in shipping is that we continue to see lower prices being offered.

UPDATE: As a reader pointed out, there is a special Newegg policy when it comes to unlocked mobile phones and there is no refund allowed, only exchanges or returns for defects. That said, unless you are sure you are going to really want and keep the N900 you may want to go with Amazon or Dell for no hassle returns.

Same here. I preordered with Amazon and the total came out to $604 with overnight shipping and no taxes. Ordering from newegg with 3-day shipping for me might as well be overnight shipping, as they have a distribution center in Tennessee. I also changed to newegg because they have a definite release date posted. Newegg doesn’t usually do preorders, so I’m pretty confident about the date. And saving another $50 is always nice too.

Matthew, I have only discovered NokiaExperts.com this year. You are doing an impressive job. Informative and interesting. I have an opinion question to pose.

I have purchased 2 N97s, N86, N85, and the E71 this year. I sent back both N97s as they were very disappointing….The others I have kept and switch out sims as you seem to do. I pre-ordered the N900 two times only to cancel after reading your reviews among others. Until Nokia decides to put MMs…and especially Portrait mode for most all functions, I will not purchase one. It is a deal breaker for me. Obviously I am waiting for the X6. But I have read a great deal this week on the N97 and how it is a completely different device with the updates and especially 2.0 of this week. Would you say that the N97 is worth another try with the firmware and software updates??? Nokia is my favourite brand and although I have several iPhones etc., nothing is better in my mind than Nokia…..Thanking you in advance, Pierre

How is Customer Service with Newegg? Has anybody ever had to return anything? I say that because I usually use Amazon or Dell for my Nokia purchases and my experience with them has been flawless.

I have never had to return anything, but see they have a 30-day return policy with 15% restocking fee. I have no plans to return the N900 and am not really concerned about this. I don’t think there is a restocking fee if the product is defective. Amazon and Dell have always been great about this so if this is any concern for you then it may be worth it to stay with them.

Thank you for the tip. Immediately canceled my order with Amazon and placed it with NewEgg and saved about another $20. Both companies are good to deal with but saving money is saving money.

I just recently found your site and thought it was comprehensive and neatly managed. I have a question about the preorder w/ Newegg. Did they charge you payment at the time of purchase or are they waiting like amazon is till the release date?

Found my answer and they do wait till the item is instock to charge you payment.

I just checked Newegg’s N900 description and the N900 can’t be returned within 30 days for refund, only for replacement.

I’m specially concerned about Customer Service because I had a nightmarish experience with – guess who? – Nokia USA!

I bought an N97 with them that unfortunately had a huge light leak. I called and requested a replacement but their asinine policy was for me to return my defective phone, order a new one, get my card charged again and then wait until they decided to give me a credit on the first charge.

I’m sorry I went on a rant about something non-related to the original post. But it doesn’t matter where we order the N900, we should ALWAYS read the fine print in the return/exchange policy. By my experience, initial batches of Nokia phones always present a comparatively higher rate of build quality issues.

Either that, or I am the guy with the worst luck in phones.

Just contacted Amazon and I can return the cell phone if I don’t like it with them for full refund, I’ll stick with Amazon.

I just saw the N900 for 498.00 dollars at Celluloco.com

Celluloco definitely has it for that price, very nice, but also has a “no returns on cell phones” policy.

IMO the choice is: * Amazon – if you want to be able to return it * Celluloco – if you want the cheapest price

Newegg seems to lose on both.

I really wish I could play with one hands-on first, but since I can’t in my area, I’ll be going with Amazon.
